Surgeons at Medilab (Pvt.) Hospital and Trauma Center in Shahrashti Upazila of Chandpur successfully removed a massive 8.2-kilogram tumor from a woman’s abdomen on Friday.
The operation was conducted by the hospital chairman and surgeon, Dr. Md. Arif Ul Hasan. Family members of the patient, a 45-year-old woman from a village in neighboring Kachua Upazila (alias: Rokeya Begum), said she had been experiencing abnormal abdominal weight and pain for the past three to four months.
Initial ultrasound tests suggested fluid accumulation in the abdomen, making it difficult to confirm the presence of a tumor. However, a subsequent CT scan verified the tumor, prompting surgery later in the day. Witnesses and medical staff were reportedly astonished by the tumor’s size during the procedure.
Dr. Md. Arif Ul Hasan said, The tumor was identified through necessary examinations. The surgery lasted about one and a half hours, and the tumor was successfully removed. The patient is currently under intensive observation.
The patient’s family avoided speaking to the media regarding the matter. Shahrashti Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Aklima Jahan said she could not comment without directly examining the patient and reviewing her complete medical history. She added that such a large tumor in the abdomen is indeed a matter of concern.
Dr. Arif Ul Hasan has previously received recognition for his expertise in performing complex surgeries in district-level hospitals.
