Khulna, Jan 29 (UNB) – After a long wait, finally the academic activities of Khulna Agriculture University (KAU) started with 150 students in three faculties in two rented buildings at Sonadanga residential area in the district.
Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek inaugurated the small campus in the afternoon.
The promise Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made to the Khulna dwellers in 2011, has been implemented today, Khulna Mayor said while inaugurating the campus.
According to Sheikh Hasina's pledge, the bill was passed in Parliament in 2015.
Prof Dr Md Shahidur Rahman Khan, Vice Chancellor of KAU said that the university will run formally by admission of students from March.
“Initially University Grant Commission (UGC) granted 51 departments of seven faculties. But primarily its journey will start with 150 students in three faculties. At primary level the university started its journey with tk 500 crore 80 lacks”, he said.
University registrar Dr Khandakar Mazharul Anowar Shajahan, Deputy Commissioner Helal Hossain, Khulna Press Club president SM Habib spoke on the occasion among others.
