Member secretary of the Sub-Committee Dr. Selim Mahmood informed the media through a press release on Tuesday.
He said “Senior Advocate AM Amin Uddin was included in the sub-committee with information and research of Bangladesh Awami League not as Attorney General but as a senior lawyer and a lawyer of the Supreme Court. According to the constitution of the Bangladesh Awami League, there is a provision to have some expert members in the divisional sub-committees of the party. Such expert members may not be primary members of the team.”
“We have followed the constitution of the country and the prevailing laws, rules, and regulations in including it as an expert member in the sub-committee. There was no deviation from the law and custom,” he also said.
Dr. Selim Mahmood said that they had noticed that many people were misinterpreting this issue and tried to make the sub-committee of the Bangladesh Awami League controversial.
“Even with the post of Attorney General, they are giving a completely wrong interpretation of the constitution and the law and talking fabrication which is completely unwelcome. Senior Supreme Court Advocate AM Amin Uddin replaced from the post as an expert member to keep the Information and Research Sub-Committee free of any controversy over the post of Attorney General.”
BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan said yesterday that the meeting voiced wonder over making Attorney General AM Amin Uddin member of Awami League's information and research sub-committee.
"Inducting a person having a constitutional post in the post of any political party is a new example in the history of the country. It's undoubtedly a vicious attempt to politicise the office of the highest law officer of the state. It's also a bad instance," the BNP leader observed.
