Another consignment of 56,890 metric tonnes (MTs) of wheat from the United States (US) has arrived at Chittagong Port.
MV EVITA carrying 56,890 MTs of wheat docked at the outer anchorage of the country’s premier seaport on Sunday, said a statement of the Ministry of Food.
The shipment came under the cash purchase agreement No-G to G-02, signed as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is importing wheat from the US on a government-to-government (G to G) basis.
Under the agreement, a total of 2,20,000 MTs of wheat will be imported while the first consignment of 56,890 MTs arrived today.
Of the total shipment, 34,134 metric tonnes of wheat will be unloaded at Chattogram Port, while the remaining 22,756 metric tonnes will be discharged at Mongla Port.
Under the G to G-01 agreement, Bangladesh has already imported a total of 2,20,000 metric tonnes of wheat.
The process of testing samples of the wheat carried by the vessel has already begun.
Necessary steps will be taken to ensure quick unloading of the wheat after completion of the sample testing, officials said.
