Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said Bangladesh and India should expand the scope of settling trade transactions in their own currencies.
"We can do our business through exchanges of Bangladeshi taka and Indian rupee. It has already started, and we have to expanded it further to increase our businesses," she told Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar when he called on her.
The meeting took place at Hotel Bayerischer Hof, the cinference venue, here on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2024.
Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud briefed reporters after the call on.
The foreign minister sai PM Hasina and Jaishankar focused on doing business between the two friendly countries through their own currencies to decrease dependency of other currencies like the US dollar.
He said Bangladesh and India have a excellent bilateral relations which have been elevated to another height under the leadership of the prime ministers of the countries.
"The relations between the two countries are getting stronger day by day," he said, adding that the two leaders discussed the issues during the meeting.
Hasan quoted Jaishankar as saying, "Our relations will further be close in the days ahead."

He appreciated her guidance for taking Bangladesh-India Maitri forward.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was present during the briefing.
PM Hasina arrived in Munich on February 15 on a three-day official visit to join the Munich Security Conference 2024.
She is scheduled to return home on Monday.
