Bangladesh has crossed the 1,000 mark in death toll within 91 days after recording the first death on March 11.

The country broke the record of highest case detection  within the span of 24 hours as the previous record, 3117 cases, was reported on Tuesday.

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin.

In the last 24 hours, 55 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested the highest ever 15,965 samples, she added.

The detection rate of new patients on Wednesday has been recorded at 1.91 percent.

Across the country 563 more patients made recovery, she said adding that so far 15,899 people have recovered from the disease.

Among the deceased, 33 were male and four were female.  “Their age-based analysis says one was aged between 11 and 20 years, three  between 31 and 40 years, five between 41 and 50, 10 between 51 and 60, 10 between 61 and 70, seven between 71 and 80 and another was aged between 81 and 90 years,” Dr Nasima said.

Twenty-five patients died in Dhaka division, seven in Chattogram division, one in Rajshahi division, one in Sylhet division, two in Barishal division, and another died in Mymensingh division. 

“Twenty five people died at hospitals across the country and 12 others died at home,” she added.

Across the country, 538 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 188 were released. Currently, 8,243 people are in isolation.

During the same period, another 3,156 people were home and institutionally quarantined and 2,083 were released. At present 57,711 people are quarantined across the country.
