Bangladesh’s sovereignty is not under any threat, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said.
The adviser made this remark while briefing the media after inaugurating an event organised by the Fire Service and Civil Defense on the occasion of International Volunteer Day 2024 at the Fire Service and Civil Defense Multipurpose Training Ground at Purbachal in Dhaka on Thursday.
Replying to a journalist's question about the border situation, the adviser said there is no tension along the border and the situation is normal.
“But the Indian media has been spreading misinformation about Bangladesh. Indian media is an example of how a country can spread blatant and false information about another country. The people of this country will unite in protesting against this,”he said.

He also urged country’s media outlets to counter this misinformation by publishing the truth.
When asked about the call for national unity by all political parties, the adviser said, "When we come together as one, it will surely have a positive impact. This will allow us to work together and protest together."
In response to the recent comments by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about Bangladesh, the adviser said she might have mistakenly referred to Bangladesh.
“I believe that United Nations peacekeepers should be deployed in her country because we have seen how minorities (Muslims) are being persecuted there.”
In his keynote address at the inaugural ceremony, the Home Affairs Adviser said the Fire Service and Civil Defense is working towards the goal of training 62,000 volunteers across the country.
Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, delivered the welcome speech at the event.
