Members of Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) detained a local Awami League leader and his brother from Sylhet's Jaintapur border while trying to enter India illegally.
The detainees are Kamal Ahmed, 55, former Upazila Chairman and president of Jaintapur Upazila unit Awami League and his younger brother Sadek Ahmed, 25.
Lt. Col. Khondkar Md. Asadunnabi, captain of Jokiganj Battalion, (19-BGB), confirmed their arrest.
BGB members arrested them from Gobari border area of the upazila at around 7:30 pm.
Two Bangladeshi passports, 14,200 Indian rupees and Tk 4,000, three mobile sets and their national identity cards were recovered from their possession.
The process of handing them over to Jaintapur police station along with the recovered goods is under process, added the BGB official.
