Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized arms, ammunition, drugs and other contraband items worth Tk 206.42 crore during anti-smuggling drives across the country, especially in bordering areas in the month of October.
During this period, the paramilitary force seized 3.262 kgs of gold, 11.410 kgs of silver, 1,71,946 cosmetics, 6,227 pieces of Imitation jewelry, 33,910 sarees, 19,580 three-piece/shirt-piece/bed-sheet/blankets, 16,991 pieces of readymade garments, 569 meter of clothes, 17,61,526 fireworks, 6.052 cft timber, 4,589 kgs of tea leaves, 10,392 kgs of betel nuts, 31,651 kgs of coal,535 cubic feet stone, 37,355 kgs of cotton/nets, 251 mobile phone sets, 31,678 mobile display, 48,286 glasses, 1500 cattle/buffaloes, 9.914 kgs of sugar, 40,826 kgs of cumin seeds, 26,458 1 kgs of onion, 601 kgs of garlic, 5,338 packets of seeds, 7,690 kgs of fertilizers, 5,024 packets of pesticides, 3002 litres of diesel, 1,09,732 pieces of chocolates, 10 trucks/covered vans, 21 pick-ups, two tractors, nine trolleys, four private car/microbus, 197 boats, 32 CNG/easybikes, 49 motorcycles and 30 bi-cycles.
Seized arms include four pistols, one revolver, three mortar shells, six hand grenades, three magazines, 53 rounds of bullets, 250 grams of explosives materials, two detonators and seven arms, said a Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam of BGB Headquarters on Sunday.
Other smuggled items include 13,82,462 pieces of Yaba pills, 3.205 kgs of heroin, 5,465 bottles of phensidyl, 10,582 bottles of foreign liquor, 251.5 litres of local liquor, 1,267 cans of beer, 1,782 kgs of cannabis, 1,30,759 packets of bidi/cigarette, 55,917 injections, 4,082 Eskuf syrups, 6,309 Anegra and Senegra tablets and 7,27,768 other tablets.
Meanwhile, legal action has been taken against 184 smugglers, 210 Bangladeshi nationals, three Indians for illegally crossing the border during the period, said Public Relations Officer of the BGB headquarters Md Shariful Islam.
Besides, 493 Myanmar nationals have been returned to their country while attempting to enter Bangladesh.
