“BGMEA has requested all its members not to retrench any worker in the month of May,” said a press release issued by the association.
It also revealed that Industrial Bangladesh Council (IBC) and Trade Union Centre (TUC) came to an agreement for providing 60 percent gross salaries to the workers who didn’t work in April.
Another five percent will be adjusted with the salaries of the running month, the release said adding that those who worked during the holidays will be provided with full salaries.
Earlier, the government had announced a Tk 5,000 crore fund to help the readymade garment factory owners to pay wages and allowances to their workers in an effort to avoid layoffs during the general holiday.
The commercial banks can take maximum 2 percent service charges who will apply for the loans from the stimulus package.
