The drive was carried out from 9 am to 5 pm.
The evicted establishments included a three-storied building, two concrete establishments, nine half-concrete establishments, three concrete walls and 15 tin-shed houses.
Some 30 illegal establishments were evicted. Besides, 150 metric tons of garbage were removed from the railway bridge area of Turag river.
On the other hand, the five-acre government grabbed land of the river Turag was reclaimed.
AKM Arif Uddin, Joint Director of BIWTA’s Dhaka River Port, informed that besides freeing the river Turag from the grabbers, the silt of the river Turag and all garbage would be removed simultaneously.
The BIWTA official also informed that after removal of silt and garbage, beautification work will be taken up. Work for the implementation of the government’s masterplan to protect Buriganga, Turag, Balu and Sitalakhaya rivers around Dhaka is also progressing.
