At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of the BNP over the distribution of rice to fishermen in the Baharia area of Chandpur Sadar.
The incident took place on Monday, March 17, at around noon near the Baharia Bazar Union Parishad Complex, during the distribution of rice (VGF) to fishermen who had refrained from catching jhatka hilsa in wards 3 and 9.
According to locals, a dispute broke out between supporters of Nuru Bhuiyan, the president of the Union BNP, and supporters of Sumon Ahmed Bhuiyan, the vice president of the Union BNP, when some fishermen without cards tried to take rice. The argument escalated into a physical altercation. Eventually, the two groups clashed with sticks and local weapons.

Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, an emergency department doctor at Chandpur Government General Hospital, said, "A person named Rabby was stabbed in the head, and he has been referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. The other injured individuals received first aid and left after treatment."
Md. Bahar Mia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station, said, "Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. To prevent further clashes, additional security was provided."
