The local administration has imposed Section 144 in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria district due to programmes announced by two factions of BNP at the same venue and time.
The emergency restriction, imposed on Tuesday evening, will remain in force until Thursday evening, said Bancharampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abul Mansur.
All kinds of meeting and gathering have been prohibited in Bancharampur upazila and its adjacent areas during the period.
Bancharampur upazila unit BNP and municipality unit BNP called for a meeting at SM Pilot High School ground on Wednesday morning. BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was scheduled to attend the meeting as the chief guest.
Meanwhile, another faction of BNP, led by former MP and BNP Executive Committee member Abul Khalek, called for a separate meeting at the same venue and time to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
On Monday, a clash broke out between the supporters of Khalek and Krishak Dal Joint General Secretary Mehdi Hasan Polash over the issue, leaving 50 people injured.
Several shops and motorbikes were set on fire during the clash.

Additional police, Rab and army personnel have been deployed to ensure the security of local residents.

On October 23, the BNP central committee announced the dates for councils in Bancharampur, Kasba, Akhaura and Sadar upazilas of the district.
