The body of a missing child was recovered from a bamboo cluster in Jhikargacca upazila of Jashore district on Wednesday, 13 hours after she had gone missing.
The body of Sadia Khatun, 7, daughter of day labourer Bablur Rahman Babu of Matikomra village in Hajibagh union of Jhikargacha Upazila, was recovered with a t-shirt wrapped around its neck.
The grandfather of the deceased child, Fazlur Rahman Faju, said Sadia remained missing since Tuesday afternoon and a General Diary (GD) was lodged at Jhikargacca police station.
Jhikargacca Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bablur Rahman Khan said Sadia’s father lodged a complaint and expressed his suspicion about the involvement of neighbour Champa Khatun in her missing.
Later local people handed Champa over to police as locals suspected that she killed the child for snatching her ear rings.
After Champa’s detention, the body of Sadia was recovered from Harun Or Rashid's bamboo cluster next to her house, he added.
Quoting locals, the OC said that Champa Khatun is a drug addict.
Sadia's body was sent to Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
