“After the lottery, the list of the final selected farmers has to be placed at the information centre of the union offices so that everyone can see. All this has to be done with utmost transparency and accountability,” said the minister in a video conference with the Dhaka division officials of his ministry from his official residence on Minto Road in the capital.
Majumder discussed about current Boro paddy harvesting and thrashing and official procurement of paddy and rice. He said there is a procurement committee in every upazila which will go to each union and conduct lottery in presence of the farmers.
He said there is an issue of moisture of paddy but each upazila agriculture office has a humidity measuring device.
The officials of the Upazila Agriculture Department can go to the house of the finally selected farmers and measure moisture content, which will be very beneficial to the farmers.
Addressing the field level officials and employees of Dhaka Division, the Minister said for the sake of farmers and to ensure fair price, paddy should be given priority.

Eight lakh metric tonnes paddy will be procured directly from farmers in this season as per the directive of the Prime Minister, he said adding that it will be helpful to tackle coronavirus situation.
