Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, on Sunday organised a commemorative event titled ‘Srijone-Smrityte’ to honour late eminent artists and sculptors of the country.
As part of the series, two sessions were held on Sunday at the National Art Gallery Auditorium in memory of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin and Patua Quamrul Hassan, focusing on their lives, works, and contributions.
The first session, held at 4:30 pm, was presided over by BSA Secretary and Acting Director General Mohammad Wares Hossain. A paper on Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin was presented by art critic and aesthetician Bulbon Osman.
Discussants included BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Abedin’s son, engineer Moinul Abedin.
The second session, scheduled at 6:30 pm, was dedicated to Patua Quamrul Hassan, with Mohammad Wares Hossain also presiding. The keynote paper was presented by Nahin Mahmud, part-time faculty at the Department of History of Art, Dhaka University.
The discussion featured BSA’s Acting Director of Fine Arts Division Pradyot Kumar Das and Hassan’s daughter, Sumona Hassan.
The two-day programme will continue on Monday (Aug 18), with sessions commemorating artist SM Sultan at 4:30 pm and sculptor Novera Ahmed at 6:30 pm at the same venue.
