A child was critically injured in a cocktail explosion in the capital's Jatrabari area on Sunday afternoon.
The 8-year old injured child was known as Nurul Islam, son of Tipu Mia. He has been residing with his parents at a rented tin-shed house in the 4th lane of Shonir Akhra Japanese Market of Jatrabari.
The incident took place at around 4:30 pm in the 4th lane of Shonirakhra Japanese Market, where Nurul Islam was playing. The child Nurul Islam, hailed from Char Faridpur of Tarakanda police station in Mymensingh, mistook a plastic ball wrapped in red tape for a toy and was playing with it when it suddenly exploded. As a result, all the fingers of his right hand were separated.
Following the explosion, his relatives rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 5:30 pm. The attending doctors referred him to Pangu Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries, said DMCH Police Camp Incharge Inspector Md Faruque.
