Students of different polytechnic institutes in Gazipur blocked Chandna intersection in Gazipur disrupting vehicular movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh, Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Gazipur highways on Wednesday to press home their seven-point demand.
Several hundred students gathered in front of MIST Polytechnic Institute on Joydebpur-Shimultoli road around 12 pm.
Later, they put barricade at Chandana intersection after parading Bhurulia Rail gate and Shibbari intersection areas, halting vehicular movements.
The protesters said there is a continued conspiracy against vocational students and diploma engineers and an attempt to destabilise the country through unreasonable demands.
Action against BSc engineering students who are trying to destabilise the country by spreading falsehoods about diploma engineers, keeping manpower structure of assistant and sub-assistant engineers ratio at 1 to 5 and 30% promotion from the position of sub-assistant engineer to assistant engineer were among their demands.
