Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday informed about the decision while briefing on the outcomes of the cabinet body.
“We’ve decided that contractors have to submit their updated tax papers while filing documents to obtain any government procurement related contract,” he told reporters.
Normally, the Cabinet Committee approves government contract for procurement of above Tk 100 crore.
The Finance Minister said those who obtain government contracts are medium and large scale contractors and they have the ability to pay taxes.
“So, we want to see that their tax files are updated. Earlier the submission of tax certificates was optional, but now this has been mandatory,” he added.
He said the government believes that the new system will help increase the revenue collection.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase approved seven proposals including procurement of nationwide digital mobile radio network installation under the Dhaka North City Corporation.
Chinese firm Hytera Communications Ltd obtained the job at a contract value of Tk 117.45 crore to install the network for Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The committee approved a tender proposal of the Shipping Ministry to appoint berth operator for the Chattogram Port for cargo handling for next five years.
Ruhul Amin and Brothers obtained the job for cargo handing at the berth No-2 at Tk 28.41 crore, while AW Khan & Company obtained the job at Tk 28.43 crore for berth No-3, and Cosmos Enterprise at Tk 28.40 crore for berth No-5.
The committee also approved separate tender proposals to award contract for capital dredging in the Old Brahammaputra, Dharala, Tulai, and Punarbhaba rivers.
Under the proposals, joint venture of Nabarun Traders and Anwar Khan Modern Dredging Corporation obtained the job for five km capital dredging in two years and maintenance dredging in next 3 years from 155-160km of the rivers at a cost of Tk 44.79 crore.
The joint venture of Western Engineering Pvt, United Progressive Dredging and Vincent Consultancy obtained the job to conduct 4km capital dredging for two years and maintenance dredging for next three years from 106-110 kms of the rivers at a contract value of Tk 35.76 crore.
The Mayar-SS JV got the job for 17km capital dredging and maintenance for same period at Tk 142 crore while joint venture of Nabarun Traders and Bengal Structures obtained the job for 10km capital dredging and maintenance at Tk 63.38 crore and joint venture of Orient Trading & Builders and Wahid Construction Ltd obtained the 6km capital dredging and maintenance job for 5 years at Tk 48.91 crore.
