The number of local fatalities rose to 7,942 after the health authorities confirmed 20 more coronavirus-related deaths in 24 hours until morning.
So far, 3,485,257 samples have been tested, 15,097 in the last 24 hours.

A handout from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said the detection rate was 4.65 percent while the overall detection rate is 15.18 percent.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
Until the morning, 473,855 patients (89.57 percent) have recovered.
“The mortality rate is 1.5 percent,” the DGHS said.
Global Covid-19 situation
Coronavirus cases were first reported in China in December 2019. It was declared a pandemic in March last year.
Until morning, globally confirmed Covid-19 cases surpassed 95 million, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

The total case count stood at 95,517,587 with 2,039,056 fatalities.
JHU data also indicates that the virus is surging in many regions and areas of 191 countries.
Bangladesh getting Covid vaccines
Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said India would provide two million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines to Bangladesh as ‘gift’ on January 21.
He said Bangladesh would receive the first consignment of Oxford-AstraZeneca's vaccine on January 25-26.

"As per the guideline of WHO, we will vaccinate those first who are working with risks. And elderly people will get priority. People below the age of 18 will not get the vaccine," the minister said.
He said the ICT department is developing an app to properly distribute vaccine.

Maleque said Bangladesh is also discussing with Russia, China and others for collecting more vaccine.
He said they have trained 4,200 people on vaccination and made a list of people who will get the vaccine first.

“Every journalist will get the vaccine as they work with risk," he said.
The government on December 13 signed an agreement with Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd for procuring Covid-19 vaccine.
Under the deal, Bangladesh will import 30 million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, five million each month from Serum Institute in the next six months.
