Flood: 2 more deaths pushes up toll to 84
Flood claimed two more lives in Sherpur and Habiganj districts in 24 hours till Sunday morning, raising the total fatalities to 84.
Each of them died by drowning in floodwater, according to the Directorate general of Health services (DGHS).

The total deaths were recorded from May 17 to June 25.
Among a total of 70 flood-affected upazilas, 33 upazilas are in Sylhet division, 16 in Rangpur division, 20 in Mymensingh division and one in Chattogram division.
Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona and Kurigram are the worst-hit districts where 13, 11, 10 and 9 upazilas were affected by flood respectively.

A total of 1,944 flood shelters have been opened, while 2,051 medical teams are working to provide various health services to the flood-affected people.

Rise in Covid cases: Bangladesh reports 596 more cases with positivity rate surging to 7.38pc
The positivity rate kept rising as Bangladesh recorded 596 new Covid cases in 24 hours till Sunday morning taking the country's total caseload to 1,956,327.
The country's total fatalities, however, remained unchanged at 29,131 as no death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily test positivity rate increased to 7.38 per cent from Saturday’s 5.94 per cent with 8,191 samples tested during the period.
The country on Saturday saw 304 cases with zero death.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 per cent. The recovery rates declined to 97.42 per cent as 49 patients recovered during this period.
In May, the country reported only four Covid-linked deaths and 816 new cases, while 7,356 patients recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.
Among the four deaths during the period, one was vaccinated with single dose of Covid vaccine while three were vaccinated with two doses.

Bangladesh reports 109 Covid cases, zero death
In increasing incidence of the virus Bangladesh registered 109 new Covid cases in 24 hours till Sunday morning taking the country's total caseload to 1,954,115.
The country's total fatalities, however, remained unchanged at 29,131 as no death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily test positivity rate increased to 2.06 per cent from Saturday’s 1.14 per cent as 5,330 samples were tested during this time.
The country on Saturday saw 71 cases with zero death.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 per cent. The recovery rate also remained static at 97.50 per cent as 91 patients recovered during this period.
In May, the country reported only four Covid-linked deaths and 816 new cases, while 7,356 patients recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.
Among the four deaths during the period, one was vaccinated with single dose of Covid vaccine while three were vaccinated with two doses.

Dengue: 24 new patients hospitalised
Twenty-four more Dengue cases have been reported in 24 hours till Sunday morning.
Twenty-three new patients were hospitalized in Dhaka and another outside it, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Eighty-five dengue patients, including 81 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
This year, the DGHS has recorded 571 dengue cases and 486 recoveries so far. The directorate has not yet reported any death from the mosquito-borne viral disease.
Dengue – a leading cause of serious illness and death in some Asian and Latin American countries – was first reported in Bangladesh in 2000 and claimed 93 lives. In three years, the fatality number almost fell to zero.
However, 105 dengue patients, including 95 in Dhaka division, died in 2021.
Dengue is found in tropical and sub-tropical climates worldwide, mostly in urban and semi-urban areas.

About 4 billion people, almost half of the world's population, live in areas with a risk of dengue, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Each year, up to 400 million people get infected with dengue while almost 100 million get sick from infection, and 40,000 die from severe dengue, it says.
Because there are four different dengue viruses, a person can be infected by the virus up to four times in their life.
"There is no specific treatment for dengue or severe dengue. Early detection of disease progression associated with severe dengue, and access to proper medical care lowers fatality rates of severe dengue to below 1 percent," according to the World Health Organization.

Bangladesh registered 58 new Covid cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning taking the country's total caseload to 1,953,812.
The country's total fatalities remained unchanged at 29,131 as no death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country on Monday saw 54 cases with zero death.

17 more dengue cases reported
Bangladesh confirmed 17 more dengue – a viral infection – cases in the 24 hours to Friday morning.
Sixteen new patients were admitted to the hospitals of Dhaka and one outside it, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Sixty-one dengue patients, including 59 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
This year, the DGHS has recorded 398 dengue cases and 337 recoveries so far. The directorate has not yet reported any death from the mosquito-borne viral disease.

Bangladesh registered 29 new Covid cases in 24 hours till Friday morning taking the country's total caseload to 1,953,592.
The country's total fatalities remained unchanged at 29,131 as no death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily test positivity rate increased to 0.60 per cent from Thursday’s 0.42 percent as 4,787 samples were tested.

Bangladesh sees rise in Dengue cases; 20 patients hospitalised in 24 hrs
Bangladesh reported 20 new dengue cases in the 24 hours till Thursday morning.
Among the new patients, 19 were hospitalised with dengue, mosquito-borne viral disease, in Dhaka city while another was hospitalised outside Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Fifty-three dengue patients, including 52 in the capital, are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals.
In 2022, the DGHS has so far recorded 381 dengue cases and 328 recoveries. However, it has not yet reported any death from it.
