The Council of Advisers in a meeting on Thursday approved the "Code of Criminal Procedure (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2025."
The meeting was held at the Chief Adviser's Office (CAO) with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus in the chair.
Once implemented, the family, friends or lawyer of any arrested person must be contacted and informed within a maximum of 12 hours of arrest and taking him or her to the police station.
Under no circumstances, this period, can be taken more than 12 hours.
Currently, a person has to be produced before the nearest magistrate court within 24 hours of arrest.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul briefed the reporters at the Foreign Service Academy after the meeting of the Council of Advisers.

LGRD Adviser Asif Mahmud and Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam were also present.
The Council of Advisers also approved the proposal for ratification of ILO Conventions - 155 and 187 on Occupational Health and Safety and ILO Convention 190 on prevention of violence and harassment at workplace.
