The annual daylong Bird Fair 2025 was held with the theme ‘Birds are the nation's treasure, let’s care for them’ at Jahangirnagar University to raise public awareness about bird conservation.
The fair was inaugurated at 10am on Friday in front of the Zahir Raihan Auditorium by JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
In his inaugural speech, the Vice-Chancellor remarked, "Visible infrastructure development in areas like Sajek has displaced various animal species. Similarly, infrastructure projects at Jahangirnagar University have impacted the natural habitats of birds."
He urged everyone at the university to remain vigilant about protecting migratory bird habitats on campus.

The event’s convener, Professor Monirul H. Khan of the Zoology Department, said in his welcome address, "While we cannot organize this event nationwide, our message is intended for all citizens. Birds are a vital part of maintaining ecological balance. Without them, nature’s food chain cannot be preserved."
The fair featured a range of activities, including a bird-themed painting competition for children, quizzes, exhibitions of books and posters, displays of preserved bird species, bird identification contests, and discussions on bird conservation.
Special guests at the inaugural ceremony included Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sohel Ahmed, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Professor Mohammad Mafruhi Sattar, Proctor Professor Dr. A.K.M. Rashidul Alam, Chief Conservator of Forests of the Bangladesh Forest Department Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury, and Mukit Majumdar Babu, Chairman of the Nature and Life Foundation.
Representatives from IUCN Bangladesh, Arannayk Foundation, and Bird Club, among others, were also present. The concluding remarks were delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Mansurul Haque, Chair of the Zoology Department.
