Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) on Tuesday expressed its profound sorrow at the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson.
In a message of condolence issued by DCAB President AKM Moinuddin and General Secretary Md. Arifuzzaman Mamun, DCAB noted that her historic role in the struggle to establish democracy, uphold a multi-party political culture, and safeguard the rights of the people of Bangladesh will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
Through her uncompromising leadership, DCAB said, the nation was repeatedly steered away from undemocratic rule during critical moments in its history.
The nation will forever remember her significant contributions to the country and its democratic institutions with honour, DCAB said in its message.
DCAB extended its heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, relatives, and well-wishers of Begum Khaleda Zia during this time of profound grief.
DCAB prayed for strength and solace for her loved ones as they mourn this irreplaceable loss.
With her passing, an era of strong, female-led political leadership in Bangladesh draws to a close, DCAB said in its message. "May her soul rest in eternal peace."
