Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain on Wednesday expressed hope that the national e-Health Card would be launched by June, aiming to make the country’s healthcare system stronger, more integrated, and effective.
The minister said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the implementation of the card as a priority initiative to strengthen public service delivery.
He made the remarks while speaking at the closing session of a two-day high-level policymaking workshop reviewing preparations for the implementation of the e-Health Card, held at a hotel in the capital’s Banani.
Sakhawat Husain said the e-Health Card would benefit the overall healthcare system. Wherever a patient — from village to city — receives treatment, physicians would be able to access essential health-related information through the card, enabling more accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
He added that the card would serve as a foundational identity framework in the health sector. Individuals could be correctly identified across different healthcare systems, while hospitals, clinics, and other service providers could securely exchange medical information.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Aspire to Innovate (a2i) programme, the Health Services Division, and the Asian Development Bank.
The programme was presided over by the Health Ministry’s Secretary, Md Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, with State Minister M.A. Muhith also present.
