The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Power Division to provide electricity to 325 polling stations nationwide ahead of the national election as currently they have no power.
“There is no electricity connection at 325 ones among the (42,761) polling stations installed on the occasion of the referendum and the 13th parliamentary election. The power connection at the 325 polling stations is required,” said a letter sent by the Election Commission to the Senior Secretary of the Power Division on Sunday.
The letter said, “It is requested to take necessary steps to ensure electricity connections at the polling stations where it is feasible.”
Rangamati tops the list with 51 polling stations without electricity, followed by Bandarban with 50, Kurigram with 33, Bhola with 31, Khagrachhari with 22, Sirajganj with 18, Gaibandha with 11, Tangail and Manikganj with nine each, Faridpur with eight, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Shariatpur and Noakhali with seven each, Lalmonirhat and Chapainawabganj with six each, Khulna and Cox’s Bazar with five each, Kishoreganj with four, Jamalpur, Mymensingh, Sunamganj and Chattogram with three each, Thakurgaon, Rangpur, Barguna, Gazipur, Moulvibazar and Lakshmipur with two each, and Bagerhat, Barishal, Narsingdi, Madaripur and Chandpur with one polling station each.
The EC earlier released the final list of a total of 42,761 polling stations across the country for the upcoming national election and the referendum.
Of these, 115,137 rooms have been designated for male voters and 129,602 for female voters, bringing the total number of voting rooms to 244,649 inside the polling stations.
The Election Commission on December 12 last declared the schedule to arrange the 13th national election and the referendum on July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order simultaneously on February 12, 2026.
The deadline for submission of nomination papers expired on December 29, while the scrutiny of nomination papers, started on December 30, be concluded on Sunday (January 04).
The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is January 20. The election campaign will start on January 22 and continue till 48 hours before the balloting period (7:30am on February 10).
