In a heartfelt gesture to share the festive joy of Eid with low-income families, a "one-taka Eid market" (Ek Takar Eid Bazar) has been launched in Gaibandha.
Organised by the voluntary group "Amader Gaibandha," the initiative took place on Saturday afternoon.
Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner Chowdhury Moazzem Ahmed along with Superintendent of Police Nishat Angela, and President of Amader Gaibandha Sayem Rahman, inaugurated the initiative.
The event aimed to provide essential food items at the symbolic price of just one taka to 250 marginalised and lower-middle-income families.

Items distributed included Sonali chicken, potatoes, cabbage, brinjal, rice, soybean oil, lentils, semolina, sugar, noodles, semai, powdered milk, salt, onions, garlic, chilli, lemon, and a variety of other vegetables.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that with the escalating prices of basic commodities, low-income families have faced difficulty affording essential products. Many were delighted to receive an assortment of goods for just Tk 1, providing them with the opportunity to enjoy a better meal with their families for at least one day.
