Police have arrested an elderly man who was caught on video allegedly harassing a young woman in an auto-rickshaw, a video that quickly went viral on social media.
The arrest was confirmed in a Facebook post by Bangladesh Police on Wednesday (April 16), stating that action had been taken following the circulation of the disturbing footage.
The incident came to light after Ayesha Siddika, a student of Siddheswari Girls’ College, shared two videos on her personal Facebook page on Monday (April 14).

In the clips, an elderly man sitting across from her in an auto-rickshaw is seen making repeated inappropriate gestures towards her.
Ayesha explained that she had boarded the auto-rickshaw in Demra Staff Quarters, heading towards Borovanga, when the incident occurred.

After disembarking, she confronted the man, who denied any wrongdoing.
Following the video's rapid spread online, police took notice and launched an investigation. Based on the findings, the suspect was identified and subsequently taken into custody.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the accused but confirmed that legal action is underway.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for strict action against public harassment and better protection for women in public spaces.
