Sources said the fire originated from a short circuit in the DS plant of power station.

Firefighting teams from Nabiganj and neighbouring Moulvibazar and Osmaninagar rushed to fight the blaze. After an hour -long effort the blaze was contained.
Manager of Bibiyana power plant Torul Islam informed that at the moment the steam turbine of the plant has been turned off and 250 MW electricity is being provided to the grid through gas turbine.

133 megawatt more electricity will be added on the grid as the steam turbine ‘hopefully’ gets going again in the next 2 or 3 days, Torul added.
The loss from the fire is yet to be calculated, he said.
