Ramjanul Islam Rony, one of the 9 brave firefighters who died in the deadly fire at the BM Container Depot on Saturday night, had been posted to Sitakunda Fire Station just 3 months ago. The 22-year-old firefighter from Sherpur joined the Fire Service some one-and-a-half years ago and died valiantly on duty while trying to douse an initial blaze at the container depot that created a huge explosion due to chemicals stored in the container, said Humayun, ward-3 member of Charsherpur Union Parishad in Sherpur. On Sunday afternoon, when the news of his death reached his home at Herua Balurghat village in Charsherpur union in Sherpur sadar upazila, a heart wrenching scene ensued, said Md Selim Reza, Charsherpur UP Chairman. Rony went missing on Saturday night while dousing the fire and on Sunday noon his body was identified by his fellow firefighters at the morgue of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), he said. Rony’s 19-year old wife Rupa Akter whom he married just four months ago was completely devastated after receiving the news and  fell unconscious several times, he said. His mother Kamrunnahar Ratna, uncle and some other family members have rushed to Chattogram to return the body of their beloved family member back to his home, said UP Chairman Selim Reza. The death toll from the deadly fire at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda in Chattogram rose to 49, and of them nine were fire service members. Firefighter Moniruzzaman, who died in a deadly fire at BM container Depot  in Chattogram Saturday night, was transferred to Kumira Fire Station in Sitakunda  upazila two months ago. Moniruzzaman Monir, 32, son of Shamsul Haque of Langalkot in Cumilla district, joined the Fire Service eight years ago. Moniruizzaman’s  uncle Mir Hossain, who came  to Chattogram Medical College Hospital to identify the body, broke down in tears while talking to the UNB correspondent . A firefighter died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital after falling ill while dousing the fire that broke out at a chemical factory near Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday. The deceased was identified as Md Milon, 41, a worker of Agrabad Fire Service. He was then taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where he died around 2pm. Earlier in the day, a massive fire broke out at a chemical factory near Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram around 10.30 am. The blaze soon triggered an explosion, according to locals. A devastating fire in Chanpur Sadar upazila’s Dakshin Tarpurchandi village burnt to ashes a cotton factory and its warehouse on Wednesday. The factory made cotton from jute fibre. According to the locals, five peoplec working inside the factory managed to escape to safety soon after the fire broke out. However, the owner of the factory, Billal Mizi fainted and was taken to the district Sadar hospital.   Firefighter Zakir Hossain said that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit and it spread quickly. Three units of the fire services managed to bring the fire under control at around 3 pm after two and a half hours of effort, he said The owner of the factory, Billal Mizi, and his brother claimed that the initial loss was around Tk 30 lakh. But fire services Deputy Assistant Directors Sahidul Islam and Zakir Hossain said that the amount of loss will be Tk 5 lakh. They further said that no permission or approval was taken from the fire services before the construction of this factory and warehouse.
