Huawei has partnered with Dhaka University, the fintech industry, and the ICT Division to accelerate the development of Bangladesh’s ICT sector.
Under the theme "In Bangladesh, for Bangladesh," the company has unveiled three key initiatives, according to a press release on Thursday.
The first initiative focuses on collaborating with Dhaka University to establish an Intelligent Classroom. The second initiative, in partnership with the ICT Division, aims to launch a Joint Innovation Lab. The third initiative introduces the "China-Bangladesh Fintech Exchange Programme," designed for Bangladeshi financial sector professionals.
Huawei announced these initiatives during the inauguration of its new office in Gulshan, Dhaka, where Pan Junfeng, president of Huawei South Asia and CEO of Huawei Bangladesh, delivered the welcome speech.
The event also saw the participation of Yao Wen, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh; Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur; BTRC Chairman Maj Gen Md Emdad UI Bari; ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury; Dr. Md. Mohiuddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare; and Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer of the University of Dhaka.
The programme featured the launch of the ‘Bangladesh Broadband Connectivity Research Report,’ prepared by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
Ambassador Yao Wen said, “As the world’s leading provider of ICT infrastructure, Huawei has operated in Bangladesh for the last 26 years with a steady and grounded approach. It has led the development of Bangladesh’s ICT industry from 2G to 5G and has grown into a key digital communication equipment supplier in the country. I am pleased to see that Chinese enterprises maintain a positive outlook on the future of Bangladesh.”
Pan Junfeng stated, “Huawei's journey in Bangladesh has been one of continuous innovation. We have worked alongside the Bangladeshi people to overcome challenges and contribute to the nation’s development. Today’s office inauguration marks a new starting point for Huawei’s development in South Asia and a new vision for Bangladesh’s future. We will continue to invest, innovate, and contribute to the intelligent transformation and sustainable development of South Asia and Bangladesh.”
Maj Gen Md Emdad UI Bari remarked, “Huawei has become a trusted partner in the nation's journey toward technological advancement. I acknowledge Huawei's unwavering commitment through substantial investments, technical assistance, consultancy, and innovative solutions that have elevated our telecommunications sector. Huawei’s efforts to expand connectivity, especially in remote areas, align with our national priorities of inclusive and digital empowerment.”
