A notice was issued on Wednesday afternoon asking residential students to vacate dormitories by 9pm (Wednesday), said Registrar Col (retd) Md Quasem.
Nazmul Haque Nadvi, dean of Shariah and Islamic Studies faculty, said the decision was taken after BCL men tortured a first-year student on Tuesday night suspecting him as a member of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Adnan, a student of Quranic Science & Islamic Studies department, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chattogram.
Earlier, Dr Mohammad Shamimul Haque Chowdhury, chairman of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department, was harassed reportedly by BCL men in front of a classroom on January 7.
On Wednesday, a group of teachers and students formed a human chain on the Kumira campus of the university in Sitakunda protesting the ‘torture and harassment’ by BCL on the campus and submitted a memorandum to the authorities.
Later, the university administration issued the notice in the afternoon.
