Many July warriors have alleged that they are being denied healthcare services at various hospitals since the last Eid-ul-Azha despite possessing health cards, describing the experience as deeply humiliating.
A thirteen member representative of the July Warriors raised their humiliation at a meeting with the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Monday.
In the meeting, the warriors of the 2024 July-August mass uprising also put emphasis on ensuring legal protection for the July warrior family members.
NCC vice chair Prof Ali Riaz, its members Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr Iftekharuzzaman and Dr Mohammad Ayub Miah and Chief Adviser’s special assistant Monir Haider were present, said a NCC release.
‘’During the meeting, the July Warriors informed the commission that many of them, despite having health cards, have been deprived of necessary medical services at various hospitals since the last Eid al-Azha. They described this situation as very sad and inhumane,’’ it said.
They drew the attention of the Commission for the need for sending a written directive from the Health adviser to the country’s all hospitals for ensuring uninterrupted medical services for the injured July warriors.
The July warriors stressed the need for providing a specific identity card to each warrior.
The July warriors raised the issue of attacking them on October 17 before the signing ceremony of the July National Charter 2025 and said it was “completely unexpected” for them.
They clarified that they had gathered at the South Plaza of the National Parliament not to cause any chaos or violence, but merely to voice their legitimate demands. However, they alleged that some outsiders infiltrated the gathering and were involved in clashes and vandalism, identifying 20 to 25 of those outsiders.
The July warriors sought the Commission’s cooperation in withdrawing the four cases filed in connection with that October 17 incident alongside expressing regret and offering apologies by the authority concerned.
