Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu hosted a colorful and festive program today to celebrate Victory Day 2025 with due solemnity and fervor.

The event was attended by H.E. Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar, Secretary General of the SAARC Secretariat, Bangladeshi officials working at the SAARC Secretariat, expatriate nationals in various regional organizations in Nepal, officials from Biman Bangladesh Airlines Nepal Office, members of the Bangladeshi community in Nepal, distinguished personalities, and business persons from Nepal. Players and officials of the Bangladeshi women’s football club Nasrin Sports Academy, currently visiting Kathmandu, also joined the celebration.

The program began at 10:00 am with the hoisting of the national flag and the national anthem. A one-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the nine-month-long Liberation War. A special prayer was offered seeking salvation and eternal peace for the martyrs of the 1971 war and the July–August Mass Uprising 2024. Messages on the significance of the day from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Chief Adviser, and Hon’ble Adviser for Foreign Affairs were read out.

A cultural program was a key attraction of the celebration, featuring students from a local art school performing dances in tune with Bangla and Nepali music and rendering songs in both languages. The program also included a performance by Ms. Saraswati Khatri, a vocalist of Nepal’s Sur Sudha Music Group, who presented several Bangla and Nepali songs.

During the discussion, SAARC Secretary General Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar emphasized the importance of Victory Day and called on the audience to uphold the spirit of the Great Liberation War. He also highlighted the need to work collectively to realize the opportunities created by the July–August Mass Uprising to build a discrimination-free and inclusive Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Md. Shafiqur Rahman delivered the concluding remarks. He paid tribute to the valiant martyrs and wounded freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War and the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising. Recalling the long struggle against oppression, injustice, and discrimination, he said the July Mass Uprising added a new dimension towards achieving the unfulfilled dream of the Liberation War by providing an opportunity to build a fair, just, corruption-free, and inclusive Bangladesh 2.0.

He drew an analogy between the spirit of the Liberation War in 1971 and the July Mass Uprising 2024, stating that just as freedom fighters laid down their lives for independence in 1971, the youth of 2024 made supreme sacrifices to rebuild the country on the values of democracy, equity, fairness, and justice. He urged all expatriate Bangladeshis to contribute to building a new Bangladesh 2.0 in the spirit of the Liberation War and the 2024 Mass Uprising.

The program concluded with a luncheon hosted in honour of the guests.
