A 42-year-old man was beaten and stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals over a land dispute in Zakiganj upazila of Sylhet on Friday afternoon, said police.
The deceased is Abul Hossain Lichu, son of late Syed Ali of Mangalshah village under Kajalsar union of the upazila.
Police and locals said there was a longstanding dispute between Lichu and his neighbour and also nephew (sister’s son) Jakaria Ahmad over the ownership of a piece of land at the village.
Jakaria, accompanied by Jobel Ahma and Mamun Ahmad equipped with locally-made weapons, went to the victim’s house on Friday and beat him up and stabbed him, leaving him critically injured, they said.

Lichu was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared him dead upon arrival, according to them.
Md Jabed Masud, officer-in-charge of Zakiganj police station, said their three teams rushed to the spot after hearing the incident and were trying to nab the accused.
Preliminary it was learned that dispute centring the land led to the killing, the OC said, adding that no one filed a case in this regard.
