A businessman was shot and robbed of gold jewellery in the capital’s Banasree area on Sunday night.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Anwar Hossain, was attacked by muggers who fled with his belongings.
The incident took place at approximately 10:45 pm in front of House No. 20 on Road No. 7 in Banasree D Block.

According to duty officer Md. Mohsin of Rampura Police Station, a police team arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a shooting. “We have officers, including Officer-in-Charge Ataur Akand and other senior officials, at the location to assess the situation,” he said.
Anwar, who sustained bullet wounds to his hands and legs, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around midnight.
DMCH Police In-Charge Faruk Hossain provided details of his admission.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Anwar recounted the harrowing attack.
He owns a jewellery shop named ‘Alankar’ in Banasree C Block.
After closing his shop for the night, he was returning home with 200 tolas of gold and Tk 100,000 in cash when he was ambushed.

The footage of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing four assailants arriving on two motorcycles.
The video depicts them opening fire on Anwar before snatching his jewellery and cash. Despite his cries for help, the attackers managed to escape.
The police are currently investigating the incident, and further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
