A Chattogram court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death in a case over killing his wife in the city’s Bakolia area around two years back.
The convict is Md Jamal, 35, son of late Jonab Ali in Musagara village under Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla.
Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Court Judge Dr Jebunnesa Begum also fined the convict Tk 50, 000, in default of which he will have to suffer six months’ more jail, said the court’s Public Prosecutor Advocate Md Abdur Rashid.
According to the case statement, Jamal and his wife Parvin Akter, who used to live in a shanty of Bastuhara Colony in Bakolia area of the city, often locked into altercation over family issues since their marriage in 2020.
Noticing their frequent quarrels, the house owner asked them to leave it and on January 17 in 2022, the landlord found the door of the shanty locked from outside.
Later, he spotted the victim’s body wrapped with a blanket lying on the bed and informed police.
The victim’s sister Babe Akter filed a murder case accusing Jamal with the concerned police station.
After completing the legal procedures, the court handed down the judgment in the presence of the accused.
