Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has urged the media to play a constructive role in consolidating democracy, emphasizing that societal change is impossible amidst doubt and negativity.
“To change society, one must be positive and trustworthy. The media must come forward to strengthen democracy through constructive criticism,” she said.
Rizwana Hasan made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion marking the 10th anniversary of Dainik Bangladesh Somachar at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in Dhaka on Saturday.
She added that in the “new Bangladesh” created through the July Uprising, citizens expect a country free from discrimination. “For change to happen, one must first change oneself—altering thoughts, reasoning, and actions,” she said.
The discussion was chaired by Dainik Bangladesh Samachar Editor Dr. Khan Asaduzzaman and addresses by Silver Line Group Managing Director M.H. Selim and Sea Shell Group Managing Director Md. Aman Ullah, among others.
