Abul Kalam Azad, who was killed after a bearing pad fell off a metro rail pillar in Dhaka’s Farmgate area, was laid to eternal rest at his village home in Naria upazila of Shariatpur district on Monday.
Azad’s body arrived at his village, Moktarer Char, Purbo Poragachha, in the morning.
A namaz-e-janaza was held on Dakhil Madrashah premises in the morning where hundreds of people attended.
A pall of grief descended the area over his premature and tragic death.
Abul Kalam, who lost both parents about 20 years ago, grew up under the care of his siblings.
In search of a better livelihood, he went to Malaysia in 2012. Upon returning home in 2018, he married Irene Akter Priya from a nearby village.
He lived with his wife and two children- Abdullah, 3 and Fariha, 2- in Pathantuli area of Narayanganj and worked at a travel agency in Motijheel area of the capital.
Like every other day, Abul Kalam left for work on Sunday morning.
Around 12:15pm, a bearing pad from a metro rail pillar suddenly fell on his head at Farmgate, killing him on the spot.
Md Imrul Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shariatpur, said, “The administration will provide all necessary assistance to the victim’s family.”
