A motorcyclist died after being hit by a Ramzan Paribahan bus at Hajipara of Dhaka’s Rampura on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Ali Hossain Talukder (34), an accountant at Dhaka Cantonment Girls’ Public School and College, said Sub-inspector Md Abdur Rahman of Rampura Police Station.
Eyewitness Abu Hanif Sohan said that the bus, which had no side mirrors, did not respond to the victim’s repeated honking. The bus reportedly kept pushing him towards the footpath before he lost control and fell, leading to the fatal accident near the Hajipara petrol pump around 3:30 pm.
Following the incident, enraged locals vandalised the bus. Police later arrived at the scene, detained the driver, and seized the vehicle.
Ali’s brother, Md Alam Talukdar, said their family home is in Kumirmara village of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. Ali had been living in a rented accommodation in the Malibagh Chowdhurypara area and had previously worked for the Daily Bangladesh newspaper. He was the youngest among six brothers and one sister.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy, the SI said.
