At least five activists of independent candidate of Natore-4 constituency Asif Abdullah Shovon were injured in an alleged attack by supporters of Awami League at Kachugari village of Baraigram Upazila on Saturday night.
The injured were admitted to Baraigram Health Complex. Seven motorcycles were also vandalised in the same attack.
Shovon's personal assistant Ibrahim Hossain said they were returning home around 9:30pm on Saturday after campaigning in Jonail union of Baraigram upazila. On the way, they were suddenly attacked with hammers, Chinese axes and local weapons by supporters of AL candidate Siddiqur Rahman Patwari MP in the Kachugari area.
Patwari got elected to represent the constituency in parliament in a by-election in September, where he stood unopposed, following the death of the previous MP from the seat.
Shovon is fighting the election with the truck as his election symbol.
Baraigram Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Sharif Al Rajib said several police teams have already started the operation to identify the attackers after collecting evidence from the spot.
