The Bangladesh Navy has rescued 24 fishermen along with a fishing trawler name Madina-6 that was left adrift in the Bay of Bengal following an engine failure.
According to the inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Navy's patrol ship Banouja Aparajeyo spotted the trawler about 29 nautical miles south of the Mongla Fairway Buoy.
The trawler was detected on radar as a vessel in distress due to engine failure. Upon reaching the spot, Navy personnel found that the trawler had been floating in the deep sea without communication equipment after its engine broke down
The Navy team rescued all 24 fishermen, provided them with food, clean water, and first aid, and towed the trawler to safety despite rough seas and hostile weather conditions.
They were later brought safely to Hiran Point near the Sundarbans and handed over to the Coast Guard West Zone for further procedures.
All 24 fishermen are reported to be in good health.
The rescued fishermen had set out from Kutubdia on October 29 for fishing.
