A neonatal girl was rescued from a footpath in Ullapara municipality of Sirajganj, prompting authorities to hold an emergency meeting and decide on her adoption under government supervision.
The infant’s parents or guardians could not be located, and she has been placed under the care of the Upazila Social Services Department.
According to sources, late Monday night, Upazila Social Services Officer Rafiqul Islam and Women Affairs Officer Nilufa Yasmin visited the site following a special report and rescued the baby.
She was subsequently admitted to the local Care Hospital.
It remains unclear whether the newborn was abandoned at birth or later left on the footpath, generating local concern.
The incident was reported to the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), who convened an emergency meeting Tuesday afternoon.
During the meeting, officials decided the baby would remain under the supervision of the Social Services Department until a suitable adoption is arranged in accordance with government regulations.
