Police recovered the body of a newlywed woman in Lohagara upazila on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Jannati Khanom Ontu, 22, daughter of Mitul Molla from Raghunathpur village.
The woman's husband, Sajjad Molla, 32, and his family are currently on the run. She married Sajjad about four months ago.
The body was recovered from the house of her in-laws in Char-Shalnagar village by Lohagara police.
Ontu’s family claimed that Sajjad had been previously married but had hidden the matter from them.
Ontu had gone to her parental home from her in-laws’ house on Thursday to visit the Durga Puja fair at Madhumati river in Shalnagar.
On Monday around noon, Sajjad and his family took her from her father’s home by auto van to their house.
Around 1:30 pm, Sajjad’s family called Ontu’s brother, Sabbir, claiming she had a stroke and asking them to come to Lohagara Hospital.

Her father later went to Sajjad’s house and found Ontu dead in a van and marks of injury were visible on her neck.
Ontu’s family accused Sajjad and his relatives of killing her by strangulation and demanded justice.
Shariful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Lohagara Police Station, said, “The body will be sent to Narail District Hospital for autopsy. After the examination, it will be handed over to the family, and further legal action will be taken based on the family’s complaint.”
