Employees of the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, or NITOR, colloquially known as 'Pongu Hospital', clashed with the injured protesters of the July movement being treated at the hospital on Monday morning.
As a result, the emergency department of NITOR was closed throughout the day
However Director Dr Abdul Kenan, speaking to UNB around 7pm on Monday, confirmed that the emergency department had opened.
"There was an unexpected incident between NITOR employees and the injured of the July movement over the collection of blood for the blood bank," the director said, admitting the two sides came to blows.
"There was a fight. That's why the emergency department was closed. It's now open again," said Dr Kenan.

"We have discussed the matter with the police," he added.
Dr Kenan told UNB the situation is normal now. He said he had heard that some people were injured in the scuffle, but couldn't confirm any numbers or other specifics.
"I don't know what their situation is. Patients had a harrowing time due to the closure of emergency services," Dr Kenan said.
The emergency department was closed after 11: 30am. Army and police personnel were deployed at the main gate of the hospital to control the situation.
After the incident, the staff left the hospital. The emergency ticket counters were empty, till the resumption of services in the evening.
