One person was killed and seven others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a bus and a van on the Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway in Laksam upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased was the driver of the van but his identity could not be known yet, said Maksudul Hasan, the in-charge of Laksam highway crossing police outpost. The seven injured are currently being treated at a local hospital, he said.
The accident occurred this morning when the Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Himachal Express crashed into the van coming from the opposite direction on the Noakhali carriageway as the other carriageway was closed for repairs.

The impact of the collision was such that the bus veered off the road and fell into a roadside drain, eye-witnesses told UNB. They were the first ones to rush to the rescue of the victims.
Maksudul suspect the accident occurred due to low visibility owing to heavy fog on the highway.
