Law Minister Anisul Haque presided over the meeting in absence of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
As per the proposals, approved by the committee, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Industries Ministry will procure 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular Urea fertilizer from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Factory (Kafco) at a cost of Tk 63.58 crore while 25,000 mt of bulk granular Urea will be imported by the organisation from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) at a cost of Tk 55.49 crore under a state agreement.
The BCIC will also import another 25,000 mt of bulk priled Urea at a cost of Tk 55.58 cr from Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat) under a state level agreement.
The committee gave its nod to a proposal of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to import different types bulk refined petroleum worth of Tk 3,583.50 crore for January-June period.
The petroleum oils include diesel, jet-A-1, furnace oil, octane and marine . But detail of the quantity of these fuel were not disclosed to reporters during the briefing on the outcome of the meeting.
Three separate proposals of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) under the Power Division received nod of the committee.
Of these, conductors, ACSR and bare worth of Tk 69.69 crore will be procured for Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barisal divisions from Meghna Star Cable company while conductor, insulated, 600V of worth Tk 46.11 crore will be procured from Rangpur Metal Industry.
Some 11kV and 33kV underground cables worth of Tk 20.60 crore will be procured from Poly Cable Industries.
The committee approved a proposal of the National Curriculam and Textbook Board (NCTB) under the Ministry of Education to procure 4,65,535 copies of books for the Ibtedayee and Dakhil level (Bangla and English version) students at a cost of Tk 51.05 lakh.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affair, with Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud in the chair, approved in principle three proposals.
As per a proposal of Food Ministry, some 300,000 household silos will be procured and set up in different areas in the country for the under-privileged, poor, non-advanced small tribes and people living in the disaster-prone areas as part of the food security related programmes.
The Education Ministry’s proposal to apply direct procurement method to procure 1,000 metric tons of paper for building buffer stock of books of free of cost for secondary level (Bangla Version) of 2001 education session received approval of the committee.
The committee also approved in principle a proposal of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division to select developer for building of multi-storyed buildings in three sites of total 7 sites on cooperative-basis for rural peoples’ development.
