Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) intensified its operations across the city over the past 24 hours as part of ensuring public safety and maintain law and order.
According to the DMP Crime Command and Control Centre, 471 patrol teams carried out duties in two shifts across 50 police station areas from 12:01 am Monday to 11:59 pm Tuesday.
Of them, 259 teams patrolled at night and 212 during the day, including 212 mobile patrol teams, 20 foot patrol teams and 27 motorcycle patrol teams. Additionally, 66 police checkposts were set up at various strategic points in the city.
During the drives, police arrested 186 people for various offences. Among the arrestees were a robber, five thieves, 13 drug peddlers, two fraudsters, and 12 accused with warrants, along with others involved in criminal activities, said DC media of DMP Talebur Rahman.
Police also recovered 11 mobile phones, a bus, and Tk 13,180 in cash. Seized drugs included 10,065 yaba tablets, 1 kg 40 gm cannabis, 74 bottles of phensedyl and one gram of heroin.
A total of 33 cases were filed with different police stations in the capital over the period, and legal action has been taken against the arrestees.
Meanwhile, DMP’s eight traffic divisions filed 2,845 cases for traffic law violations. Among the vehicles, 282 were dumped and 92 were towed.
DMP reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and smooth movement of Dhaka residents.
