In a condolence message, the president described him as a shining star in the music arena and said the country lost a great musician.
He prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile in a separate message, Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death.
The Prime Minister recalled the contribution of Azad Rahman in the music arena. "A vacuum has been created in the music world due to the death of Azad Rahman," she said.

She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Azad Rahman passed away on Saturday at the age of 76. The noted artist breathed his last at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital at Shyamoli in the capital around 4:45pm, according to his sister Masuma Mannan Lina.
He was taken to the hospital on Friday after he fell sick and suffered a heart attack before his death.
Azad is survived by his wife, singer Selina Azad, and their three daughters. His body has been kept at the hospital’s mortuary.
