A prisoner accused of committing crime against humanity during the Liberation War has died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital.
The deceased, Abdur Mannan Howlader, 86, from Bhandaria upazila in Pirojpu, passed away at around 1:45 am on Friday while receiving treatment at the hospital’s medicine ward.
Prison guard Sujon said Mannan fell ill at Keraniganj Central Jail on Thursday night.
Following instructions from prison authorities, he was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at the hospital, said the body has been kept at the morgue for an autopsy.
An inquest report will be prepared in the presence of an executive magistrate.
The body will be handed over to the family after completion of legal formalities, he said.
